At Nettleham Bowls Club, we pride ourselves on being welcoming to new members. Our club fosters a spirit of camaraderie and friendly competition, making it the perfect place to enjoy lawn bowls.
Club Facilities
Our excellent clubhouse was built by our members, for our members. As well as plenty of space for regular social events it has toilets and space for changing along with a kitchen and members bar - a real 'hub' for our club. Our green has six rinks and is recognised as one of the best around - it is regularly used by local leagues to host the later stages of knockout competitions. For those that drive to us, there's plenty of safe and free parking too.
Bowls started in Nettleham in 1935 on what is now the Co-Op car park. The present club was formed on 3rd February 1937, moving to the current location in October that year. The land was rented from Mrs S. A. Jubb for £5.00 per year and shared with the tennis club. For almost a decade, the green was cut by hand, until the club could afford a motor mower in 1946.
The green was doubled to four rinks in 1951 and, when Mrs. Jubb died in 1954 the bowls club purchased the site and the tennis club eventually moved to their present location. The only clubhouse was an old railway carriage - this was upgraded to a wartime prefab in 1969 and new toilets were built.
In 1973 a new six-rink green was laid to English Bowling Association standards and between 1980-84 a new brick machinery store and members bar were built. The present clubhouse was built in the 1990s with club members Stan Smith and John Lill leading this initiative.
In 2018, a major refurbishment of the areas surrounding the green were undertaken with the help of a grant from the Biffa Award.
The club adopted a smart new playing outfit for the 2023 season.
